The Académie des beaux-arts de Québec is launching a competition open to all. Artists are invited to submit an original work produced during the summer of 2020. The theme of the competition is completely free. The proposed work can be done in graphite, dry pastel or oil paint and must represent a subject executed from nature, made from a photograph or executed from the image bank of the busts of the Academy. The artwork must measure a minimum of 8 x 10 inches and a maximum of 18 x 24 inches.
To participate, you have three options:
Participation to the competition, advice on the choice of your subject and analysis of your final work by the teachers of the Academy: $45
Participation to the competition, advice on the choice of your subject, follow-up of the progress of your work by email during the completion and analysis of your final work by the teachers of the Academy. Includes 3 reviews of your photographed work to help you in the various stages of production: $125
Participation in the competition, advice on the choice of your subject, monitoring of the progress of your work with private meetings and analysis of your final work by the teachers of the Academy. Includes 3 meetings in the form of a 1-hour private lesson with a professor at the Académie des beaux-arts de Québec: $250
The works will be evaluated according to the following criterias:
Choice of subject: originality, composition, arrangement and lighting of the subject;
Accuracy of representation: proportions, application and finesse of the drawing;
Harmony of colors and / or richness of the spectrum of tones;
General rendering of the work.
You can then choose the participation formula that suits you.
As soon as you register for the contest, we will contact you by email to help you choose your subject and initiate your work. For those who choose the options with email follow-up or private meetings, we will offer you a schedule to assist you in the creation of your work during the summer. You will have until August 21, 2020 to send us your final work.
The winning work will be presented on the Academy's website and Facebook page and will receive free museum-quality framing. We will highlight the quality of three other works by awarding a 2nd place, a 3rd place and a special mention.
